Explore the complexities of social welfare and justice issues while you learn the skills needed to transform policies. Here, you鈥檒l gain the knowledge and experience to work with culturally diverse populations and understand how social justice issues affect various communities.

Through internships, service learning and research, you鈥檒l see firsthand what it takes to truly effect change. This major is designed for action 鈥 to not only educate you but to empower you to advocate for justice, equity and change 鈥 positioning you as a leader ready to make an impactful difference in communities locally and globally.

Hands-on learning for career success

While 测辞耻鈥檙别 here at Marquette, preparing you for 飞丑补迟鈥檚 next will be one of our top priorities. So, expect lots of learning by doing, connecting with others who share your passions, and reflecting on how you can Be The Difference.

 

Internships

As a social welfare and justice major, your understanding of social policy, the criminal justice system and strategies to promote justice will prepare you for a variety of careers. Explore the possibilities with internships included in the program.

Our students intern at a wide variety of sites, including:  

  • Milwaukee Mayor鈥檚 Office
  • Schools
  • Health services
  • Programs for domestic abuse victims, immigrants and persons struggling with drug addiction

Undergraduate research

Here, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside faculty, assisting with their research, or conduct your own independent research project under the guidance of a faculty mentor. And you can present your findings at our annual student-led Research Salon.

Leadership learning

Become a people-centered leader guided by our Jesuit tradition. Join our E-Lead program sophomore year and you鈥檒l complete a combination of leadership courses and experiences that prepare you to be the driver of innovation for the common good. You鈥檒l develop the skill set to generate innovative solutions and the mindset to reflect on the impact your work has on the world. Bonus: You鈥檒l graduate with a concentration in leadership, too.
