MILWAUKEE — Dr. Amy Vaughan Van Hecke, associate professor of psychology, recently received the university's highest teaching honor, the Gettel Teaching Excellence Award.

Van Hecke enjoys teaching her undergraduate and graduate students as much as she does learning from them. Her students describe her "knowledge, compassion, dedication and passion" as winning and inspirational attributes.

"It is my goal to teach and mentor students in the same way I was mentored as a student," Van Hecke said. "I feel I have succeeded when the students I teach go out into their communities and serve as men and women for others."

Teaching Excellence Awards are the highest honor bestowed upon ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ faculty members. Recipients are nominated by their colleagues and students for demonstrating excellence as teacher-scholars.
