Human rights law expert, Holocaust survivor Buergenthal goes 'On the Issues' at Marquette Law

MILWAUKEE 鈥擳homas Buergenthal, a leading authority on international and human rights law and one of the younger survivors of the Holocaust, will be the featured guest in an upcoming "On the Issues with Mike Gousha," Thursday, March 23, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at 糖心传媒 Law School's Eckstein Hall, 1215 W. Michigan St.

This event, the third annual Edie Adelman Lecture, is sponsored by 糖心传媒 Law School, Women's Philanthropy of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and the Edie Adelman Political Awareness Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation.

Buergenthal's book, "A Lucky Child: A Memoir of Surviving Auschwitz as a Young Boy," will be sold by Boswell Books at the event. In this memoir, Buergenthal shares his experiences as a child in various Nazi concentration camps including Auschwitz.

Buergenthal is the Lobingier Professor Emeritus of Comparative Law and Jurisprudence at George Washington University Law School. Buergenthal has served as a judge on the International Court of Justice, as a member of the U.N. Human Rights Committee and on the Ethics Commission of the International Olympic Committee. He was the first chairman of the Committee on Conscience of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Gousha, an award-winning broadcast journalist, is the Law School's distinguished fellow in law and public policy. His "On the Issues" series of conversations with newsmakers supports Marquette Law School's commitment to serve as a modern-day public square for the city of Milwaukee, the state of Wisconsin and beyond.

Through public programming such as the Marquette Law School Poll, debates featuring candidates in significant political races, Gousha's "On the Issues" conversations with newsmakers, public lectures by leading scholars and conferences on significant issues of public importance, the Law School serves as the region's leading venue for serious civil discourse about law and public policy matters.
