Associate Professor

Department of Biomedical Sciences

Dr. Ghasemzadeh received his B.S. in Chemistry in 1986 and Ph.D. in Neurochemistry in 1990. He was a Research Assistant Professor in Department of Physiology and Neuroscience at Medical University of South Carolina before joining the Department of Biomedical Sciences in 2002. Dr. Ghasemzadeh is the course director for the BISC 160, Molecular Pathology. His research interests are in the areas of cellular and molecular mechanisms of drug abuse and schizophrenia.

Education

  • B.S. 1986, Chemistry, Jackson State University
  • Ph.D. 1990, Neurochemistry, University of Kansas
  • Post-doctoral training, Department of Pharmacology, University of Pennsylvania, 1990-1995

Research Interests

Research in the Ghasemzadeh Lab

Research in my laboratory focuses on understanding the neurobiology of addiction and schizophrenia. These pathologies involve long-lasting changes in brain function and behavior with devastating personal and social consequences. We are interested in elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying these enduring behavioral modifications. Research techniques employed in these studies range from behavioral and neuropharmacological manipulations to cellular and molecular methodologies.
