Considerations for Spring 2025 planning
Typical Four Year Plans
Students are expected to make progress in both business and non-business courses each semester. It is not in a student鈥檚 best interest to take only non-business or business courses in one part of their career at Marquette.

First Year Students Registering for Freshmen Spring: Register for 16-17 credits
- Review Typical Four Year Plans:
- Business Courses:
- If enrolled in MATH 1400 Elements of Calculus (3 cr.) in fall, then take BUAD 1560 Business Statistics (4 cr.) in spring (must take BUAD 1060 Excel (1 cr.) before or with BUAD 1560 Business Statistics (4cr.)). If enrolled in MATH 1200 Pre-Calculus (3 cr.) in fall, then enroll in MATH 1400 Elements of Calculus (3 cr.)in spring.
- Move from ACCO 1030 Financial Accounting (3 cr.) in fall to ACCO 1031 Managerial Accounting (3 cr.) in spring.
- Enroll in ECON 1103 Microeconomics (3 cr.) in spring
- BUAD 1001 Business Day 1 (3 cr.) and BUAD 1060 Excel (1 cr.) are taken during freshman year, register for whichever is remaining in spring.
- Non-business options: Any remaining MCC foundations courses (ENGL 1001/THEO 1001/PHIL 1001/ (all 3 cr.)), non-business elective (anything outside of the college of business options that you meet prerequisites for). CORE 1929 will be taken sophomore year.
Second Year Students Registering for Spring: Register for 15-17 credits
- Review Typical Four Year Plans:
- Business Courses:
- LEAD 2000 Career Planning and Application Strategies (1 cr.) and/or CMST 2300 Business Communication (2cr.) or COMM 1100 Professional Public Speaking (3 cr.) if not taken in fall semester.
- BUAD 1060 Excel (1 cr.) and BUAD 1560 Business Statistics (4 cr.) if not yet completed.
- Any remaining 3001-Introductory Business courses (review prerequisites), one Structured Elective (Ethics, Core Enhancement or Analytics) if available, Major-specific requirement/elective ()
- Non-Business Courses: CORE 1929 if not satisfied, Discovery Tier Theme course options, non-business electives.
- Tasks:
Third Year Students Registering for Spring: Total Credits may vary due courses that dual apply, 15-17 can be typical
- Review Typical Four Year Plans:
- Major coursework, structured electives, LEAD 3000 Strategies for Entering the Business World (1 cr.) if not complete, upper division business electives if a single business major (anything 3000-4000 level in the College of Business), Discovery Tier Theme courses, CORE 4929 in Junior or Senior year, non-business electives.
- Tasks:
- Review major course flows and associated prereqs on the.
- Review WRIT, ESSV2, International Business options, if not complete.
- Review courses that dual apply鈥攚ill additional courses be needed to meet graduation credit requirements?
- Submit up to two Reduction of Credits Request form(s) for business courses that will dual apply in your Discovery Tier Theme and your business core or major requirements (not MATH 1400 or PHIL 433). This will reduce your overall credit needs by 3 for each course (maximum 2, or 6 credits).
- Review Electives (Non-Business) Open Elective form if needed for a business course outside of declared major(s), internship for credit course (any major), study abroad course.
- Conduct a personal checklist audit for outstanding courses in final semesters, GPA, and Credits. Reach out to the Dean's Office with any questions.
Fourth Year Students Registering for Spring: Total Credits may vary due courses that dual apply, 15-17 can be typical

- Final personal checklist audit for outstanding courses in final semesters, GPA, and Credits. Reach out to Sara.Koenig@marquette.edu or Beth.Krey@marquette.edu in the Swift Student Center with any questions.
- Review courses that dual apply鈥攚ill additional courses be needed to meet graduation credit requirements? Can you reduce your overall credits due to dual applying business courses in your Discovery Tier Theme and business core or major requirements? Reduction of Credits Request form if needed
- Review Electives (Non-Business) Open Elective form if needed for one business course outside of declared major(s), internship for credit course, study abroad course (Fall 2019 and later)
Transfer Students:
- Pay attention to prerequisites and the sequencing of business course needs (i.e. FINA 3001 Financial Management (3 cr.) and the prerequisites of BUAD 1560 Business Statistics (4 cr.), ECON 1103 Microeconomics (3 cr.), and only ACCO 1031 Managerial Accounting (3 cr.) may be taken concurrently).
- Start planning out Business Core Courses, Major Courses and Upper Division Business Electives.
- Next, focus on what non-business requirements are needed and when it makes sense to enroll.
- Any remaining Marquette Core Curriculum (MCC) requirements? CORE 4929 should be taken in the final fall or spring semester.
