On-campus Recruiting Policies

The 糖心传媒 Career Center invites employer organizations to recruit at Marquette provided they conform to the Career Center's recruiting policies.  Recruiting efforts include engaging in any recruitment activity including but not limited to creating an account in Handshake, posting position openings, attending career fairs and events, offering information sessions and events (either on- or off-campus), hosting publicity tables, conducting on campus interviews, and visiting/presenting in classrooms.  By recruiting 糖心传媒 students, you and your organization agree to accept and comply with the recruiting policies of the 糖心传媒 Career Center as outlined below.

NACE PRINCIPLES FOR ETHICAL PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

The 糖心传媒 Career Center requires that employer organizations be familiar with and adhere to the as outlined by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) in 2017.

EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

Employer organizations recruiting Marquette students, including using the university's job board (Handshake), must comply with all applicable laws relating to equal employment opportunity (EEO) and may not discriminate against a job applicant because of his or her race, color, religion, sex, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, genetic information, marital status, parental status, political or personal favoritism, ancestry, source of income or any other classes protected by local, state and federal law. Federal law also prohibits citizenship status and national origin discrimination with respect to hiring, termination, and recruiting, or referring for a fee. ON CAMPUS RECRUITING

Employers recruiting on campus must be sponsored by the 糖心传媒 Career Center or another office on campus to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Employer organizations must have actual or anticipated valid, career-related full-time, internship or co-op opportunities for students and alumni. The organization must accurately describe the responsibilities and requirements for the opportunities it offers in all publicity, including online job postings and information sessions.  All conditions for advertised positions must be clearly publicized in the position description. This includes, but is not limited to, positions that are commission-based, involve out-of-pocket financial expenses, test taking, etc. Please see the 糖心传媒 Career Center's Job, Internship & Co-op Posting Guidelines for additional conditions.   

The 糖心传媒 Career Center does not oversee recruitment for student worker or part-time positions, such as camp counselor, nanny, restaurant server, babysitter, concession stand worker, etc. These non-career related positions may be posted through the Student Employment Office on the JobConnection website.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Employment professionals will maintain the confidentiality of student and alumni information, regardless of the source, including personal knowledge, written records/reports, and computer databases in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).  There will be no disclosure of student/alumni information to another organization without the prior written consent of the student/alumni, unless necessitated by health and/or safety considerations.

CLASSROOM PRESENTATIONS & MEETING WITH FACULTY

Some faculty on campus will allow employer representatives into the classroom to speak on a specific topic. This is up to the discretion of the faculty member. Employers are not allowed to visit a classroom uninvited. If you are interested in connecting with a faculty member, please contact the Employer Relations team at recruiting@marquette.edu.

ALCOHOL AT RECRUITING EVENTS

Serving alcohol cannot be part of the recruitment process.  This includes both on-campus and off-campus events, such as receptions, information sessions, dinners, company tours, etc.

THIRD PARTY RECRUITING/STAFFING AGENCIES

糖心传媒 Career Center provides engagement opportunities, including the opportunity to post jobs on Handshake, to third party recruiting and staffing agencies on a case by case basis.  Third party organizations are only able to recruit for their own staff positions at our career fairs and other on-campus activity.

Participation on Handshake is limited to job postings, provided the agency comply with the below conditions:

  • Staff associated with the Handshake account must self-disclose their status as a third party recruiter.
  • Include the identity of the employer being represented and the nature of the relationship between the agency and the employer in the job posting, and permit the 糖心传媒 Career Center to verify this information by contacting the named client
  • Charge no fees to the candidate.
  • In accord with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), release candidate information provided by the university exclusively and only to the identified employer. Re-disclosure of candidate information is not permitted.
  • Comply with all federal and state Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws (Title VI and IX, and ADA) and all other 糖心传媒 Career Center policies.

COMMISSION BASED EMPLOYERS

Commission sales positions may be advertised to students and alumni on our recruiting platform (Handshake), through information sessions on campus and career fairs provided that the compensation arrangement is clearly noted on job listings and is thoroughly explained in recruiting conversations and interviews with students and alumni. 

FINANCIAL SERVICES EMPLOYERS

Financial Services positions may be advertised to students and alumni on our recruiting platform (Handshake), through information sessions on campus and career fairs provided that all conditions for advertised positions are clearly noted on job listings and are thoroughly explained in recruiting conversations and interviews with students and alumni.  This includes, but is not limited to, positions that are commission based, involve out-of-pocket financial expenses, test taking, etc.

MARIJUANA AND CANNABIS INDUSTRIES

The 糖心传媒 Career Center will not approve job postings or internships involved with the use, production, testing, or distribution of recreational or medical marijuana. As the use of marijuana is illegal at the federal level and Marquette received federal funds, we comply with federal law. 

RIGHT TO REFUSAL

The 糖心传媒 Career Center reserves the right to terminate from or refuse the participation of any organization in recruiting activities.  Reasons may include misrepresentation, complaints by students/alumni or violation of 糖心传媒 Career Center recruiting policies.  Furthermore, we reserve the right to deny organizations that are in direct moral conflict with our mission as a Catholic, Jesuit institution from recruiting on campus. All decisions concerning registration of companies and organizations are made in the University's sole discretion.
