Middle Eastern and North African Studies Major and Minor Programs
The MENA studies program melds a foundation in Arabic language with an interdisciplinary curriculum that explores the history, society, economy, theology, philosophy and media of the Arabic-speaking world. With a wide array of electives, MENA studies students can tailor their program of study to their interests and career goals. Students will understand the political, economic, gender, social and cultural dynamics of the Middle East and North Africa with an interdisciplinary approach and using discipline-specific methodologies.

Context courses on the historical, theological, social and cultural contexts underpinning the field of Middle East and North Africa studies (12 credits). Elective courses (9-12 credits) allow students to focus their studies or expand their knowledge base.
The interdisciplinary minor requires 18–20 credits, depending on the student's proficiency in Arabic upon beginning the program. Foundational courses in Arabic language study (6–8 credits). Electives (12 credits) from historical, theological, social and cultural context courses.
